    • Winesses to the marriage were Roger Foster, John's cousin, and Ellen Ferguson, Minnie's elder sister.

Minnie was given away by her brother-in-law Will Foster, because her stepfather refused.

John and Minnie started their married life in Lundie Street, Everton.
Immediately after the birth of their 1st child David, they moved to a new house thay had bought at 82 Greystone Road, Stoneycroft. One of John's football idols, Billy Liddell, moved into a new house just round the corner after the war.

In 1947, after living for 6 months with Minnie's sister Lily and her husband Harry in Longview Avenue, Huyton, the family moved into 48 Kremlin Drive, an old Victorian 3 storey house (plus basement) that had seen better days. There was a grid in the path leading up to the front door - when coal was delivered, this grid was removed so that the coal sacks could be emptied straight into the coal store in the basement.

Because money was tight, the family took in lodgers, some of whom became and remained friends for many years. One of these was a German POW, Heinz Holzhauser, who remained in Liverpool, Lancashire, UK after the war.

This remained the family home until 1982, when John and Minnie moved into smaller rented accommodation in Gregory Way Childwall, where they lived near John's brother Sid and his wife Eve, and near John's sister Elsie, who was recently widowed. They lived there until John's death in 1989.

The family had a caravan at Gronant near Prestatyn in North Wales. This was obviously a weekend when Minnie's family arrived on a visit.

This photo shows off the car that John won on the football pools in 1946. We were one of the first families in the road to own a car. Almost certainly taken by Mum and almost certainly in North Wales.
Note the damaged rear end. Dad never did pass a driving test.

The Foster and Westhead families usually spent their holidays together. In the 1940s and early 1950s, these were usually in North Wales.

Lyn and Gene were on an all too short visit to Dave and Irene in Milton Keynes. This was taken at the side of the Grand Union canal in Simpson, a short distance from Dave's home.

I put this photo of me in only because of the kitchen background. The house was probably my maternal grandmother's.
