Irene's thanks

 Introduction

Although tracing one's family tree can at times be a solitary occupation, one is constantly surprised to discover unexpected sources of help.  This page is dedicated to those people, living and dead, who have provided most of that help.  I apologise if I have missed anyone out.

It is Irene's immediate family members, both in Milton Keynes and in Villach, Austria, who have given most freely of their time.  In England, Irene's aunt Thelma Hartwell helped a lot.  In Austria, the first person to help was Irene's cousin Helmut Mitterer.   Since Helmut's death, another cousin Richard Pinteritsch has been making weekly trips to Klagenfurt Record Office and has greatly extended Helmut's findings.   All the source references stem from Richard's work.  Irene's cousin Edie Hemstock and her mother Theresia Moser in Canada have been of great help also.

Other people who have helped are listed below. Most of them are contacts through Genes Reunited and Ancestry.  If someone's name is underlined, clicking on it will take you to their own web site.  The names are listed in surname order.

Who Relationship to Irene
Holly Adams/McKenzie Irene's grandchildren Tyler and MacKenzie Rudd have McKenzie ancestry that takes them back to Aberdeenshire and Banffshire in the Scottish Highlands.   Irene had always hoped to find a connection with her namesake Lord Hartwell, without success.   It now seems that Tyler and MacKenzie are nearer to the peerage, the distant cousin Lord Alexander John MacKenzie-Stuart having been a life peer!

Holly, whose shared ancestry dates from the early 1800s, has unearthed lots of information that she has shared with me.

Kevin Benfield William Hartwell and Frances Mary Baker were Irene's 5th gt-grandparents - or were they?   It now seems unlikely.  They were cetainly Kevin Benfield's ancestors.   Kevin has provided a full family history for his Warwickshire branch of the Hartwells.
Fred Copeland Fred's wife Sandie (nee Garrington) and Irene are 2nd cousins, descendents of siblings Thomas James Watts and Clara Watts respectively, from Wardington near Banbury.  Fred has provided lots of photos.
Tom Cox Tom's mother Reata was a younger sister of Irene's grandmother Rebecca Lines.  Tom has given lots of info on the Lines family - and provided photos of Irene's great grandparents, Albert and Amy Lines.
Christine Hartwell, nee Nicholls Christine's husband Stephen is a 2nd cousin of Irene. Christine has provided photos and info on the Hartwells.
Annette Richards We are not sure whether Annette is related to Irene, but she has helped with info on the Blakes of Boarstall on the Bucks/Oxon border.
John Ricketts
John's grandmother Kate Eliza Watts was sister to Irene's great grandmother Clara Watts.  John has helped with photos and info on the Watts of Wardington.  John has found more errors in my data than all my other 'readers' combined!
